As soon as we learned about the story of Dihya, we felt so excited and inspired that we wanted to bring her spirit into everything we do at Mish Mish.

'Dihya'
AMAZIGH WARRIOR QUEEN

WHO WAS DIHYA?
A female military and religious leader from an Amazigh tribe in North Africa, Dihya has a long history going back 14 centuries. Widely known as “The Berber Queen”, it is said she led the North African resistance to the Arab-Islamic invasion of that region in the 7th century A.D.
A steadfast warrior as well as a merciful leader who liberated thousands of slaves, Dihya is known over most of North Africa as a heroine; a woman who in today’s terms would be called 'liberated', even a ‘feminist'.
Historically, women played a strong role in Amazigh society, and today many still use the image of Dihya to represent strength, resistance and female empowerment.
